Chief Justice Emeritus Bart Katureebe has been installed as the new 3rd Chancellor of Uganda Management Institute (the first male Chancellor).

The Friday ceremony was attended by Hon Namirembe Bitamazire, immediate former Chancellor.

“Consider this as an opportunity to bring your historic experience and orientation of the NRM into education especially the training of managers in the Public and Private sectors of this country,” Vice President Jessica Alupo told Katureebe.

She also thanked the outgoing Chancellor Hon. Namirembe Bitamazire, for a job well done.

Alupo and Bitamazire

“Hon. Bitamazire is an example of the NRM commitment to continued betterment of our society, we do not get distracted by office.  It is the goal that matters.  I assigned Hon. Bitamazire with the task of rolling out our UPE and later USE and she did not disappoint me.”

“Education of our bazukulu is important and she was a torch bearer. We are currently ensuring that children do not only go to school, but complete their Education and acquire quality education.”

“We have also embarked on a clear goal to better access to infrastructure to teach Science and encourage our learners to study and use Science. This country will appreciate the investment in Science with time. Our commitment to Science will go all the way to universities, colleges, research, innovation, laboratories and in industry.”

Hon. Justice Katureebe is here because of his impeccable character in service since 1975.

“Justice Katureebe, you are still strong, help UMI to be seen in your image of hard work and impartiality,” she noted.

She encouraged the Chancellor of this Institute, led by former Education Permanent Secretary F.X Lubanga to ensure this Institute achieves self-sustenance.

“Do not try to achieve self-sustenance by teaching courses that have no value. You must teach courses that respond to the needs of Uganda as detailed in the NRM manifesto and the National Development Plan.”

“When you aim at solving problems in this country including corruption, work ethics, Nationalism and others, you will put your name on the map.”

She congratulated His Lordship for being installed as Chancellor and thanked Hon Bitamazire for serving the Institute and the country very well.

“I also congratulate UMI for getting a new Chancellor.”
