Makerere University has been recognised by the African Union Commission (AUC) for her role as Organising Partner of the 3rd All Africa Postharvest Congress and Exhibition (3rd AAPHCE).
The hybrid event was hosted by the AUC both virtually and physically at its headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 13th to 16th September 2021.
The AUC equally recognised Prof. Archileo N. Kaaya from the Department of Food Technology and Nutrition, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) for his role as Member of the Technical Committee of the 3rd AAPHCE.
Held in line with the theme Postharvest Loss Reduction for Sustainable Food Systems the 3rd AAPHCE brought together development partners, private sector actors, academic and research institutions, as well as civil society actors to create awareness about food loss and waste occasioned by poor postharvest handling.
Prof. Kaaya whose research interests are postharvest technology, food safety (mainly mycotoxin control) and nutrition was the 2018 Winner of the African Union Agent of Change for Aflatoxin Control in Research and Technology award.
He is a member of the International Society for Mycotoxicologists, African Society for Mycotoxicologists and the Nutrition Society of Uganda.
