Now that the vaccines are available the economy will be fully reopened in January 2022, President Museveni has said.

“Whether you are vaccinated or not. If anything goes wrong, the moral responsibility is yours,” the president said Thursday night while addressing the nation.

“I don’t believe that Ugandans are refusing to get vaccinated, they are just not told. I now want to inform you that vaccines are available at the health centres and schools and the rest of the economy will be opened in January 2022.”

He said among them should be the 4.8 million frontline workers and vulnerable categories of people.

“If this is done, we shall be able to open schools and the rest of the economy by January 2022.”

He said by the end of December 2021, we shall have received 23 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccines which will be used to vaccinate more than 12 million Ugandans.

“We expect that more than 12 million Ugandans will have been vaccinated out of our target of 21 million people.”

Priority groups

The president wants all priority groups vaccinated by the end of December.

He said bar workers and the market vendors should be included as the priority groups to receive the vaccines.

According to him, teenage pregnancies and loss of school time can be reversed but death is irreversible.

Young mothers can go back to school and study but dead people cannot, he clarified.
