Ugandans launch ‘My Lyk’ social media app

Ugandan app developers have launched their own social media platform dubbed “MyLYK”.

This comes at a time the country’s President Museveni continues to block Facebook for deleting accounts of pro-government bloggers, individuals and government officials.

The new social media app was launched by Andrew Aja Baryayanga, the Team Management Director, at the ministry of Tourism offices in Kampala Friday.

He said it is designed to connect people and communities, past, present and future.

“This App that we have introduced to the World today, has been carefully designed to suit our Lifestyle and is meant to be as interactive as possible,” Aja told journalists.

He said MyLYK App will take Uganda to the world.

“It is a unique app to connect communities. It is interactive, easy and fun to use.”

MyLYK, can be accessed through the Google PlayStore on Android and Apple AppStore on the iPhone.

Brian Acaye, a lead developer, says even people without smartphones can access MyLYK through its official website at www.mylyk.net.

MyLYK users can share and invite their friends and family to connect on the app.

The app’s features include; posting, communities, pages, marketplace, jobs, blogs, among others.

A user can share texts, images, videos, links, stickers, hashtags, real-time chats or make voice and videos calls.
