Francis Kasolo, the officer in charge of Busitema police post, has been lynched for shooting dead a resident.
The incident happened in Kadungu A village in Namusagali sub-county in Kamuli district.
Kasolo was killed on Sunday evening after shooting dead Yosam Namwindo.
According to reports, Namwindo allegedly hired traditionalists who accused his neighbours Alex Muyinda and Joseph Oju of bringing evil spirits that were traumatizing the whole village and causing misfortunes.
Residents attempted to lynch Muyinda and Ojo which prompted Kasolo and his colleague to intervene.
Angry residents instead pelted the officers with stones forcing the police to retaliate.
After shooting Namwindo dead, residents cornered the officers, grabbed Kasolo from the police patrol vehicle and lynched him.
They also confiscated two AK-47 guns which police later recovered.
