A senior police officer has been arrested for beating up his colleagues who were enforcing Covid19 guidelines.

The incident happened Thursday night when the junior officers raided the senior officer’s bar in Kyengera for operating past curfew hours.

The officer was identified as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ivan Mulera, formerly in charge of operations at the Nsangi Police.

He had been transferred to Kasese last Sunday.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, Mulerwa beat up the Field Forces Unit (FFU) colleagues who reportedly found him in Kyengera in Kazinga zone in a bar said to belong to him.

FFU police reportedly found him together with a group of boys playing cards.

When confronted, Mulerwa beat them up and even tried to grab their guns.

Luke said the culprit would be charged in the normal court of law and later face the police disciplinary court.
