Retired Politician Amama Mbabazi has spoken out on police violence.
The former Prime Minister who was speaking at the launch of Pamela Ankunda’s book; “Pieces Of Time”, said that police should treat people humanely and observe the rule of law.
He said the idea of police brutalising citizens was a think of the past regimes.
“What is the difference between today and then? The difference is that today we have the rule of law. That shows the extent of civilisation.”
Mbabazi who contested the last election was the chief guest at the launch of the book which took place Thursday at Kampala Serena hotel.
“I have in the recent past heard some compatriots glorify past regimes, including colonialism. They’ve attempted to whitewash a terrible history of human rights abuses. This book is a complete rebuttal of such opinions,” he said.
“The response of the police is no different from those who are breaking the law. People should be allowed to exercise their freedoms,” he added.
