Singer Sheebah Karungi says Ugandan musicians are hungry for The Iconic MTV Base celebration, MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA).
The celebration which showcases the ultimate in African culture, music, and creativity, will be held in a re-imagined virtual format in partnership with Uganda, The Pearl of Africa on February 20th 2021.
The MTV Africa Music Awards Kampala 2021 will be broadcast on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and MTV (DStv Channel 130).
Sheebah made the remarks last Wednesday during an engaging Q&A discussion with accomplished Ugandan artist Bebe Cool and talented South African rapper Nasty C.
“In Uganda, musicians are hungry for that exposure, they are hungry to be known and seen on an international level. I’m glad the MAMAs will give us that,” she noted.
Sheebah requested local awards organisers to emulate the internationally recognised MAMAs, how they organise and host their events.
Sheebah advised local awards organisers to ensure they don’t award prizes particular artistes don’t deserve.
The MAMAs remain elusive to Ugandan artistes.
But Sheebah has atleast been nominated in this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) becoming the first female artist in Uganda to be nominated on such a big platform.
She was nominated in the category of ‘Best African Act” alongside last year’s winner Burna Boy from Nigeria, Rema from Nigeria, Gaz Mawete from Democratic Republic of Congo and Master KG.
These Awards will take place on November 8th in Johannesburg, South Africa.
