Museveni orders probe of cops, soldiers seen shooting citizens
President Museveni has ordered the investigation of some police officers and soldiers who were seen shooting people during Kampala riots.
“Some policemen and soldiers who were shooting directly at people, what they were shooting at we don’t know yet but we shall find out,” he said Sunday while addressing the nation.
“Good thing, we now have cameras; the problem is rioters were destroying cameras.”
He said the white pick up that “you saw” there was trying to evacuate Kidega that was injured by rioters “the thing is that we have cameras everywhere.
“So there is nothing that can happen without us seeing, but the thing is that these rioters are attacking the cameras. Why do you fear the cameras?”
Museveni called on police to carry out comprehensive investigations of alleged ‘stray bullets’ fired by security personnel during the riots “you should first fire in the air to scare the rioters”.
He said the NRM wants transparency but the democrats want darkness, they don’t want evidence.
“As we look forward to emerging from this COVID-19 nightmare, we shall organize bailouts for businesses that have been affected by the pandemic.”
