Singer Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool has spoken out on his 2015 MAMA nomination and the importance of these awards, especially to Ugandan artistes.

He was last Wednesday speaking at the announcement of MTV Africa Music Awards by MTV Africa and MTV Base held at Mestil hotel, Nsambya.

“Our music industry in Uganda and East Africa…we see South Africa and Nigeria as far ahead of us. If you get nominated, you feel you are getting closer and so does the industry. And who gives you that opportunity, it’s the MAMAs,” Bebe said.

“I feel so good, that the Ugandan music industry is getting closer and closer,” said Bebe during an engaging Q&A discussion alongside highly skilled songstress Sheebah Karungi together with talented South African rapper Nasty C.

Bebe said it is not just his own happiness but all Ugandan artistes.

“I love the fact that when your name is mentioned, you get to know where you belong at that time.”

He went on: “So the MAMA gives you the rating and then it is up to you. I’m glad it is in Uganda to rate our music and help us rate ourselves. I love the fact that Nigeria can be ten times greater than Uganda but the mamas are here right now and I’m in them.”
