Muntu, Tumukunde, Katumba suspend campaigns till Bobi Wine is free
Presidential candidates have suspended their campaigns in solidarity with detained colleagues Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and Patrick Amuriat.
The National Unity Platform presidential candidate was arrested in Luuka town and detained at Nalufenya police station in Jinja city.
The Forum for Democratic Change candidate was arrested in Gulu city and held at Gulu CPS.
Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party candidate Mugisha Muntu and independent candidates Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde and John Katumba also decided to suspend their rallies.
“We have decided to pause our presidential campaign activities until our colleagues, Hon. Kyagulanyi and Hon. Patrick Amuriat Oboi are released and their freedom to campaign guaranteed,” said Muntu on Wednesday.
“We call upon government to recognise that this isn’t business as usual. The future of the country depends a lot on how you handle this season.”
Muntu said the impunity with which security operatives are operating in the continued harassment and now arrest of Hon. Kyagulqnyi is leading this country closer towards a breaking point.
“We join NUP and all fair-minded Ugandans in calling upon his immediate release.”
“In solidarity with other leaders and parties to the election, we are suspending all campaign activity until candidates #Patrick Oboi Amuriat & #Bobi Wine are released and able to continue with their campaigns,” said Tumukunde.
Katumba also said he wants to reecho what he has been communicating to everyone who has been calling in to ask for tomorrow’s program!
“I repeat:-all my campaigns are cancelled in solidarity with Bobi Wine.”
