Bobi Wine says state planted hooligans to beat NBS TV journalists
National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has condemned the attack on NBS TV journalists.
The incident happened in Lira town on Thursday where many journalists were beaten by unknown people and their gadgets stolen.
NBS TV’s Daniel Lutaaya and Thomas Kitimbo were injured, their car smashed and their equipment taken.
“It was very disturbing to see images of journalists, particularly those of NBS attacked by hooligans and their equipment stolen yesterday during our campaigns in Lira,” Bobi Wine said on Friday.
“I understand some of our supporters were also attacked by the same criminal elements.”
He hoped that the perpetrators of this brutal attack will be brought to book.
“We’re alive to machinations by the state to plant hooligans among our supporters during campaigns, such they can cause chaos and give NUP a bad image.”
He said the attack on media is intended to scare them away so that they don’t broadcast the hunger for change all across the country.
“We call on our supporters to remain calm and peaceful even with these provocations. Ours is a peaceful revolution.”
