Makerere University Chancellor Professor Ezra Suruma has appointed Associate Professor Dr Josephine Nabukenya as acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration.
This was after the resignation of Dr William Bazeyo who was a subject of inquiry over lack of credible qualifications to occupy the position.
In a letter dated November 11, 2020, Prof. Suruma said the appointment doesn’t exceed one year.
“By the powers vested in me under section 56(I)(a) of the University and other Tertiary Institutions Act,2001(as amended). I Professor Ezra Suruma, Chancellor of Makerere University do hereby appoint Dr Josephine Nabukenya acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration of Makerere University,” the letter reads in part.
“With immediate effect for a period not exceeding one year or until a substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor is appointed.”
Two former Makerere University students in August this year petitioned the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) to investigate the shortlisting of Bazeyo for the post of Deputy Vice-Chancellor Finance and Administration-DVCF&A
Sam Ninsiima and Amos Weliki opposed Prof. Bazeyo’s shortlisting on grounds that he lacked credible academic qualifications.
