National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has resubmitted signatures to the electoral commission.
This follows the recent joint security forces attack on NUP offices on 14th/10/2020 where all forms bearing millions of signatures endorsing Hon Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert’s Presidential candidature were taken away.
“We dispatched our teams countrywide to recollect these signatures and thankfully we were able to raise 33,000 signatures from 109 districts within two days which we took to the Electoral Commission in fulfillment of the deadline.”
By law, 9800 signatures are required (100 signatures from 98 districts) to endorse a presidential candidate and this, NUP surpassed the required number.
“Nothing, absolutely nothing can stop our revolution,” said party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi.
Meanwhile, Bobi Wine said their coordinators and candidates are each day prohibited from appearing on radio stations and in other cases the station owners charge them very high prices so as to prevent them from appearing there.
Just this weekend, a comrade from Acholi was asked for 6 million shillings to appear for one hour on radio.
“At the same time, Mr. Byabakama talks of a scientific election! What a joke! Countrymen and women, the clock is ticking. Freedom is in sight.”
“THANK YOU to all citizens who signed forms to endorse my candidature! For two months we had been collecting millions of signatures until Wednesday this week when the military and police raided us and stole them!”
Since the deadline for submission was Saturday 17th October, NUP did not want to give them any chance to play their usual games with them.
“We wrote asking for an extension of time, but also worked hard for two days to get fresh signatures. We activated our structures countrywide and collected a fresh batch of signatures. Thankfully, there were a few districts whose signatures were still in the field by the time of the raid.”
The NUP presidential Candidate will be nominated on Tuesday 3rd November 2020 at 11:00am.
