Police teargases Buganda youth, arrests Nabilah

Police has arrested National Unity Platform (NUP) mayoral aspirant Nabila Naggayi Sempala.

She was grabbed Tuesday morning as police battled pro-Buganda activists who wanted to march to Bulange, Mengo in protest of the raid on the Buffalo clan meeting on Saturday.

The group from Kawempe was led by the incumbent Kampala Woman MP Nabillah and Kawempe North MP hopeful Ssegirinya Muhammad.

They were arrested along Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road in Kawempe Division.

Nabillah called on several Buganda subjects to protest this attack on the kingdom.

She said they were going to deliver a petition to Bulange tasking the authorities to speak out against what they witnessed on Saturday.

“We had ceased the street struggle but I think now is the time to revive it,” she added.

Police quickly arrested her, bundled her onto a patrol car and whisked her away.

The force also fired teargas and live bullets to disperse the crowd that tried to shield her.

This is her statement:

When will the men in uniform learn to respect humanity?

Self respect by definition is a confidence and pride in knowing that your behaviour is both honorable and dignified. When you harass or vilify someone, you not only disrespect them, but yourself also.
Street harassment, directed violence, harassment of humanity, impartiality, fake arrests are all acts committed by a person who in fact has no self respect.

-Respect yourself by respecting others.
We are not happy with the recent malicious acts of arresting our party members, unlawful arrests, and negligent throwing of tear gas to communities. This should stop…
Arresting and harassing me makes me stronger….

Am out of these people’s hands…
