Juba peace deal signing today


The final signing of the Juba Peace Agreement is taking place today, 3 October 2020.

The agreement between the Sudanese Transitional Government and movements under the Revolutionary Front is mediated by President Salva Kiir.

Peace in Sudan means peace in South Sudan, the presidency said Saturday.

Several heads of state and dignitaries are expected to attend the signing of the Sudan Peace Agreement.


South Sudan Presidential Security Advisor Tut Gatluak told Radio Tamazuj the Presidents of Kenya, Uganda, Chad and Sudan will attend.

The Prime Ministers of Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan will also be in attendance.

The Qatari foreign minister, Saudi Arabian foreign minister, UAE Petroleum minister are also coming.

The Sudanese government and the main rebel alliance have agreed on a peace deal to end 17 years of conflict.

The Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), a coalition of rebel groups from the western region of Darfur and the southern states of South Kordofan and Blue Nile, will sign the final agreement in Juba tomorrow.

The peace agreement provides for the dismantling of rebel forces and integration of their fighters into the national army.

Gatluak thanked Britain, Norway, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and other countries, international and regional organizations and individuals for making the peace deal come to fruition.
