Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago Friday attended a Special KCCA Authority sitting to pay tribute and eulogise former Kampala Mayor Al Hajji Nasser Ntege Ssebaggala.
Hajji Nasser Ntege Ssebaggala was the first directly elected Mayor of Kampala City in 1998.
He was removed from office and replaced until June 1999 by Councilor Sarah Muwonge Nkonge the Deputy Mayor then.
Hajji Nasser Ntege Ssebaggala served as Kampala Mayor again from 2006 – 2011 and he was the last to hold the title Mayor, Kampala Capital City.
The new Legal regime established the office of Lord Mayor under the KCCA Act of 2010.
Lukwago who is now holding the reins, was this week nominated to run for the same office in 2021 elections.
“The caravan is on, Erias Lukwago, your shield against misrule, thuggery and injustices is solid,” he said on Thursday.
He was referring to the disruptive behaviour and highhandedness of the Uganda Police and Military personnel notwithstanding, that welcomed him to the Electoral Commission [EC] Kampala Region nomination centre in Ntinda.
“Together we should build a functional, vibrant, inclusive, resilient and sustainable city that works for all of us, regardless of our station in life.”
