Following the further easing of lockdown restrictions by H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda, the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has resumed full service to the public.
The NIRA district and division offices as well as the NIRA Headquarters Kololo commenced full operations with effect from Monday 27tl July 2020, with exception of the districts where lockdown is still in force.
The Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Hon. Obiga Kania confirmed the development while addressing the Press and the Public on the Resumption of Issuing Passports and Work Permits.
He says; “in view of the directives of President Museveni n partial lifting of the lockdown, Ministry of Internal Affairs will resume operations at 30% while observing the SOPs with effect from 29th July, 2020.”
The summary of services that will resume at 30% under the Ministry include: Passport & Immigration services; Registration services for identification of persons; NGO Regulations; Management of Community Service orders, Demobilization, Resettlement and Reintegration of reporters. Provision of forensic and testing services.
According to Kania, registration of persons for National IDs, Civil Registration devices and other incidental services will also be provided.
