Former presidential candidate, John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, celebrates both his birthday and wedding anniversary in the same month of January.
On January 4, 2020, the former prime minister celebrated his 45 years of marriage with wife, Jacqueline Mbabazi.
“Thank you all for your warm wishes on my wedding anniversary. We cherish all the heartfelt blessings that came our way,” he said on social media January 5.
He added: “As someone said, “the best part of your life is when your family becomes your friends, and your friends become your family.” Not only are you our friends, you are our family. Thank you everybody for celebrating our anniversary and making it so memorable.”
He married Jacqueline on January 4, 1974 when she was only 18 years old “mainly to protect her from Idi Amin’s State Research operatives who had started abducting women from universities for being light-skinned”.
A week or so later, Mbabazi on January 16, 2020 celebrated his 71st birthday.
He was born January 16, 1949 (age 71 years), in Mparo Village, Rukiga County, in present-day Kabale District.
“I was overwhelmed by receiving so much attention for my birthday today first from my great family and from friends from all over the world,” he said.
According to Mbabazi, His Royal Highness Michael of Kent, the Patron of the Brazzaville Foundation, Mr. Jean-Yves Ollivier, the Chairman of the Foundation, and many other world luminaries with whom he flew into Lomé on this day made this it a special one to remember.
“Thank you, everyone, for the birthday wishes. I’m sure that with all these wishes, it will become a great year,” he added.
