Andrew Angume, the Officer in Charge of Operations at Kasangati Police Division, on Monday sustained injuries while battling People Power supporters in Kasangati Town Council.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Angume personally led police officers who arrested Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, alongside with his People Power leaders, Asumani Basalirwa, Bugiri Municipality MP and Kawempe North MP Latif Ssebagala.
During the arrest, a scuffle broke out as People Power supporters tried to protect their leaders prompting police to fire teargas and live bullets.
A teargas canister fired by his colleague injured ASP Angume on the right thigh, narrowly missing his testicles.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Police, said they are investigating how the incident happened and that the officer was admitted.
Uganda Radio Network [URN] reported that another officer was injured after protestors pelted stones at him.
He was rushed to Kampala in an ambulance as there was no open health facility in the area.
Meanwhile, Bobi Wine and his group were accused of holding a presidential consultative meeting in an open venue contrary to the POMA act.
The group was detained at Kasangati Police Station in Wakiso District and later moved to Naggalama Police station in Mukono District.
They were later released in the night with clear charges.
