Former FDC Party Presidential candidate, Mr Moses Byamugisha, is organising a thanksgiving in Rujumbura Constituency in Rukungiri district.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place at Bugangari church of Uganda on Easter Sunday April 12, 2020.
In 2017, Byamugisha had a successful campaign for FDC’s top office, an activity that saw him traverse the country meeting all FDC leaders in districts.
Since then, he has remained very active holding meetings especially in Universities and other higher institutions of learning in a campaign that he coded , “Championing an inclusive youths-led Change”.
Byamugisha has also been active in other regional and continental students and youths organisations like the YouLead Summit that brings together young leaders from the East African Community member states, The Eastern African Students and Youths organization (EASYO) which brings together young leaders from the entire eastern Africa block stretching out to the Horn of Africa.
Towards the end of 2019, he spent three weeks in Rabat, Morocco heading a constitutional review process to come up with a new constitution for the All Africa Students Union (AASU).
This was during the AASU summit which brought together students leaders from across Africa an activity that was sponsored by the President of Morocco, King Mohammad where it’s believed that the youth leader got plenty of time with key government officials.
Byamugisha has sustained a steady quite national campaign and inside source indicates that he has his eye on the national office through FDC party.
For the three previous times, FDC has fronted Dr Kiiza Besigye, a position which seems not to be going to change soon.
Its therefore not clear how Byamugisha intends to pursue his ambitions well knowing that his boss is still around.
With this thanksgiving ceremony being organised and one of the constituencies where he is capable of running for Member of Parliament, its also possible that he may be strategizing for a parliamentary seat just in case his plans for presidency do not materialise.
Currently, Rujumbura constituency is represented by Hon Fred Turyamuhweza who is also on the FDC ticket.
Some argue that it’s unlikely that Byamugisha may go for the Rujumbura seat since its already in FDC’s hands and the current MP is his personal friend.
For his thanksgiving, Byamugisha is said to have invited all the big political names in town of course including Hon Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and Dr Kiiza Besigye who has been his long time personal friend.
We wait to see if any specific political announcement will be made on this historic day.
Otherwise, all roads lead to Rukungiri town for this special Easter celebration.
