President Museveni on Saturday hosted Kenyan Deputy President Dr William S. Ruto at State Lodge Mubende.
Dr Ruto was also the Chief Guest at the ceremony to commission the William S. Ruto Institute of African Studies at Makerere University.
Museveni said he supports this initiative as one of its aims is to develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning about Africa.
Museveni said the William S. Ruto Institute of African Studies, whose goals among others will be; to collaborate with similar Institutes in Africa and globally to deepen the understanding of Africa in all its complexity and evolve common perspectives on global issues; strengthen relationships between academic and indigenous intellectuals as the basis for reclaiming indigenous knowledge, and integrate this into local communities as well as establish an environment for flourishing study and debate on African languages, arts, philosophies, social and political systems.
“I welcome Dr Ruto to Uganda and would like to pledge $100,000 [Shs366m] towards this initiative.”
