Police arresting student leaders

Police has Friday raided a press conference and arrested Makerere student leaders.

The arrested are members of the Guild Council Abbas Muyombo and Ronald Kamusiime who represent students with disabilities.

The duo had gathered press to comment on last night raid in halls of residence which saw soldiers beat students and destroy their property.

The students claim that their colleagues with Disabilities were also severely beaten even though it was evident that they were disabled.

Police then found itself surrounded and engaged in a cat and mouse game when officers tried to arrest Davidson Ndyabahika, a journalist with Uganda Radio Network [URN].

Journalists stood in solidarity with one of their own.

“You are going to arrest all of us if you want. Arrest all of us,” a female journalist cried out as she shielded Ndyabahika with arms wrapped around him.

The officers had no choice but to back off.

The media has been stopped from covering a press conference that student leaders had planned.
