Fire broke out in Kisenyi downtown Kampala destroying houses and property worth millions.
The fire which ravaged Kiganda zone last evening, started from Chot’s lodge at about 6 pm and spread to other houses, destroying property such as mattresses, fridges, television sets among other items.
Uganda Radio Network [URN] reports that the fire also destroyed almost all the workshops and cars that were parked nearby.
Fire brigade police could hardly get to the scene due to poor and narrow roads, leaving the affected residents with no choice but to put out the fire themselves.
Residents attributed the cause of the fire to illegal power connections in the area.
Other residents who blamed fire brigade for coming late also told NTV that Local Defence Unit [LDU] soldiers instead of helping with the fire resorted to beating up locals.
