FDC activists remanded for assaulting magistrate

Buganda Road Court has sent to Luzira prison six Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] activists who are accused of throwing a water bottle that hit Grade One Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu.

They are; Ojobile Augustine, Waiswa Abdullah, Joel Kabali, Katumba Moses, Wanyera Simon and Fatumah Abenabyo.

The group was arrested on Friday during the sentencing of former Makerere researcher Dr Stella Nyanzi and produced in court on Monday.

They were first charged with inciting violence that on 2nd August when they incited people in court against Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu.

Wanyera Simon, Fatuma Zaina and Ojobile were charged with malicious damage of the Gerret Walk Through Detector Machine at Buganda Road Court.

The arrest

The activists have further been charged with contempt of court.

Counsel Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Isaac Semakadde represented the accused persons.

Ms. Margaret Wokuri Madanda and Ms. Adikini Joyce were presented as securities for A1-Wanyera Simon.

They asked for bail which was denied. The presiding magistrate said she needs time to study documents presented by the sureties.

She remanded them until 16th August 2019 for ruling on bail application.
