Reign of terror: armed men fire bullets, rob shops in Kisoro


Armed thugs on Tuesday night attacked Mbonjera Trading Centre in Bugara village, Gasiza Parish in Nyakabande Sub County in Kisoro district and terrorised residents.

Voice of Muhabura radio reported that around 11pm, when residents were closing shops; unidentified gunmen appeared and shot about four times in the air, forcing everyone to run for their dear lives.

It is said that one of the thugs was in army uniform, while another one was dressed in civilian clothes but masked his face, as both were armed with guns.

The thugs then entered two shops which were still open and robbed off money, which some say is over 640,000 Shillings.

Kananga Silver, one of the traders, told the radio that a bullet was shot through his door as he tried to close, forcing him to abandon the shop and run away.

Reign of terror

This came after Kisoro based lawyer Isaac Sendegeya who was shot dead over the weekend had just been laid to rest.

At the same time, Kisoro police is investigating circumstances under which a 28 year old was last evening stoned to death by a mob in Kibaya Village.

 Kabagambe Valence was suspected to had stolen a goat.

Iyamuremye John the chairperson Bugara Village, Gasiza parish in Nyakabande Sub County, told Kisoro FM the deceased had been stealing property, food and animals.

The body was taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

In another incident, a woman identified as Cyimpaye Naome was chopped to death by her estranged husband Mahinja Emmanuel in Muganza Village, Nyakabingo Parish Cyahi Sub County in Kisoro district.
