A Congolese national has been killed in a gunfire exchange with Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF soldiers during a highway robbery in Kisoro district.
The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Louis Nambajimana, a resident of Busanza in North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC.
He was gunned down by UPDF soldiers from Kanombe Detach at Giharo village in Bunaga parish in Muramba Sub county Kisoro district around on Tuesday night at around 10:00pm.
The Muramba Sub County LC 3 chairperson, Francis Nzabona, said that Nambajimana who was armed with a Sub Machine Gun staged an illegal roadblock around 09:00PM and started robbing passersby.
According to Nzabona, says the victims alerted the commandant of Kanombe army detach, who immediately dispatched soldiers to the area to arrest the suspect.
The Kisoro Resident District Commissioner, Capt. Peter Mugisha, says the deceased resisted arrest and fired at the soldiers forcing one of the soldiers to respond in self-defence.
The deceased was found with a gun loaded with 12 live ammunitions.
The armed assailant who came from Democratic Republic Congo through Muramba Sub County wanted to wreak havoc in Kisoro town.
