Mayor race: Chameleone joins Bobi Wine’s People Power

Leone Island singing doctor Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone has joined People Power Movement as he vies for Kampala mayoral seat.

On Wednesday May 29, Chameleone joined Democratic Party leaders in a DP Reunion held in Jinja town and attended by Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the founder of People Power pressure group.

“Today is remarkable as I witnessed love and unity upon invite by the Democratic party President General Norbert Mao my “Muko” and Doctor Paul Kawanga Ssemwogerere to be a guest at the party Reunion in Kakindu stadium – Jinja,” Chameleone said.

He shared a video of what he called “the overwhelming welcome and cheers made me feel and understand that with love and unity my country is destined for better”.

The AfroBeat artist recently declared his intention to contest for Kampala Capital City Authority Lord Mayor seat currently occupied by Erias Lukwago.

Speaking during DP- UYD reunion, Chameleone who was clad in a red shirt and beret, said he is now part of the group.

“We shall not win if we are not united,’’ he said, denying reports that he is in the ruling NRM party.

“I’m in Opposition, stop pushing me to NRM. I’m the only person who had not yet joined you. This is the time for youth,’’ he said.

“Tell Lukwago that he should hand over the keys to me. Some thought I was not serious, I am educated, I’m not in drama, I’m very serious,’’ Chameleone went on.

In a special way, Chameleone extended his gratitude to all other members Mr. Abed Bwanika, Hon Mabiike, Hon Janat Babirye, Hon. Florance Namayanja, Hon. Paul Mwiru(FDC) Hon. Sam Mali, Ssemugoma Kigozi, Hon. Kidandala, John Mary Ssebufu and Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi.

“May the unity exhibited today continue even beyond. May we also continue to be symbols of peace and harmony undividedly,” he said.  

If he runs for mayor, Chameleone will have joined other musicians who have turned to politics like; gospel singer Judith Babirye, comedian Kato Lubwama and singer Daniel Kazibwe aka Ragga Dee.
