The Court of Appeal has Friday ordered the government to pay Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago salary arrears amounting to over UGX 500 million.

Lukwago who assumed office in 2011 petitioned court in 2017, demanding payment for over 30 months.

He was illegally impeached in 2013 for alleged abuse of office and incompetence.

Appeal court dismissed yet another application by government that sought to challenge the charges of contempt of court levelled against former Attorney General, the late Peter Nyombi, and Former Electoral Commission Chairman Eng. Badru Kiggundu, former Kampala Minister Frank Tumwebaze and former KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi.

These allegedly defied Justice Lydia Mugambe’s directive to reinstate city Lukwago to office.

Phillip Odochi, the registrar Court of Appeal who read the judgment, said the AG was in court and ought to have communicated the court order to the affected persons.

Speaking on the ruling, Lukwago said the impeachment was null and void and was illegally kicked out of office.
