Opposition Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] says it has received 20 members of the ruling National Resistance Movement [NRM] who defected in Sheema North.

Sheema North is part of Sheema Municipality, an urban centre in the Western Region of Uganda and the largest municipality in Sheema District.

In the 2018 by-election, NRM’s Naome Kibaaju beat FDC’s Guma Nuwagaba to win Sheema North constituency seat.

It was formerly under NRM’s Dr Elioda Tumwesigye, the science, technology and innovation minister who crossed to represent Sheema municipality after beating FDC’s Plan Mugyenyi.

According to the party, 20 members of NRM on Sunday defected to FDC and willingly handed over their NRM cards to Hon Felix Mujuni, a member of the people’s Assembly, Peoples Government.

Hon Felix Mujuni handed them FDC Cards.

This happened on Sunday 3rd at Kagazi in Masheruka Subcounty Sheema North Constituency.

In February, while the Party Leadership in Jinja was interfacing with the Party branch in Kagoma Constituency, two NRM members defected to FDC.

At the meeting chaired by Mr. Balabye Charles, the FDC Kagoma Constituency Chairman, Mr. Babaranda B, the former Speaker of Buwenge Town Council, and Mr. Kibatanya Sowaali the current Councillor for PWD’s representing Buwenge Town Council, both formerly of the NRM Party, joined opposition.

Appearing on NBS “Frontline” programme last week, People’s Government President Kizza Besigye said he is ready to fight alongside whoever comes to struggle and fight.

“What I don’t want to hear is anyone who tells me to stop fighting because however strong one might be, we all need people to fight. What is the intention of any one who fights and pushes away soldiers from the front line?”

He added: “During war, everyone who is ready and willing to fight is important and must be encouraged, Young or old, every soldier is important.”
