The Governor of Jubek State, Augustino Jadalla Wani, has appointed the nephew of President Kiir as the Deputy Mayor of Juba.

In a gubernatorial decree issued, governor Jadalla appointed Thiik Thiik Mayardit to deputise Semir Khamis, the Lord Mayor.

Khamis himself was appointed two weeks ago to replace Stephen Wani Michael who was sacked on the 2nd of November 2018.

Juba City Council is currently under the jurisdiction of Jubek State government where the governor appoints the mayor, the deputies, and the entire administration of the council.

The jurisdiction of Jubek State over Juba City (which is the national capital) is deemed unconstitutional by South Sudan’s Human Right’s Commissioner Beny Gideon who is a lawyer by profession.
