Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, has suspended Guild Elections amid a lecturers’ strike that has paralysed the institution.

Makerere Guild Speaker, Isaac Kwagala, said this was in reference to his letter to the Vice Chancellor regarding extension of Student’s Guild elections.

“The Guild Elections have been suspended to provide a conducive environment to facilitate the process of returning our University to full normalcy,” Nawangwe said in a February 13 letter.

Uganda Police Force together with the Military Police deployed on Wednesday afternoon and condoned off Makerere University Freedom Square.

This was the venue where the FDC Makerere University Students Chapter had organised a joint Guild Presidential Candidates rally and General Assembly.

The FDC MUK Students Chapter by defiance stormed University Hall Grounds as an alternative venue for this party building activity.

The FDC Guild Presidential Primaries has attracted four candidates vying for the party flag.

They are; Namuddu Milly, Mukisa Joshua Williams, Musiri David, and Kodokech Emmanuel.
