Rwanda President Paul Kagame on Monday arrived in Vienna, the capital of Austria for a high level forum.
Kagame will co-chair the High Level Forum Africa-Europe alongside Austria’s Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
Kagame and Kurz are current heads of the African Union and European Council, respectively.
Kurz like Kagame also holds the rotating presidency of the EU Council which will be going to another person after.
In Africa, Kagame revealed the AU chair will go to Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
President Kagame and other Heads of State and government were later in the evening hosted to a dinner hosted by Chancellor Kurz in their honour ahead of #africaeurope2018 forum.
Speaking at the dinner, Kagame said the presence of so many leaders from Europe and Africa is going to be productive and is very meaningful. “We have all been working hard to inject a new tone and energy into the Africa-Europe relationship.”
Speaking as the Chair of the AU, Kagame said there is also present President Al Sisi of Egypt, “who is going to be the Chair after me”, and Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission “as well as the Heads of State who are here”.
“This is to signify the importance we attach to this relationship between Europe and Africa. I think we are really starting to get somewhere.”
Kagame said all have been working hard to inject a new tone and energy into the Africa-Europe relationship.
Kagame and Austrian Federal Chancellor Kurz will both deliver opening remarks at the forum this morning.
