Lulu Jemimah, 32, the single Oxford University student who married herself in Kampala, has finally raised all the Shs49m tuition fees from her “Go Fund Me” campaign.
Lulu, fed up of her family lecturing her on the importance of settling down with the right man – walked herself down the aisle on August 27 – her 32nd birthday.
She says marriage is the last thing on her mind and wants to study.
As such, she opened a blog https://uk.gofundme.com/kzysnz where she is soliciting tuition fees from well-wishers.
On Saturday, Lulu announced she had finally raised the 10,194 Pound sterling equivalent to Shs 49,593,127.82.
“WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO £10,194 of £10,194 raised in one month by the global village. See you soon @UniofOxford A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE THIS POSSIBLE. Let me call my mother,” she tweeted excitedly.
Some of those who contributed included Britam Uganda, a Leading Financial Services Group in Uganda with interests in Insurance and Asset Management and “Flair for Her” magazine which celebrates, inspires and empowers women, among others.
Lulu was accepted into the University of Oxford last year.
She is a writer from Uganda working towards a career in research and academia.
“To do this, I need a masters degree, at the very least but no university in Uganda offers creative writing at graduate level,” she says.
