Soldiers brutally beating civilians in Kampala

The national army has ordered for the arrest and detention of soldiers who beat journalists during Kampala riots.

The riots calling for the release of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine started in Kisekka market.

Angry people burned flammables and blocked roads to express their dissatisfaction.
Military responded with force, firing teargas and live bullets. At least 103 people were also arrested.
Thesoldiers then descended on journalists, neat them, arrested them, tortured them and confiscated their cameras.

Reuters journalist James Akena suffered the greatest brutality.

NTV journalists Brian Earnest Damba, Ronald Galiwango and Juma Kirya were rounded up and beaten.

NBS TV and Observer journalists were also beaten and arrested.

In a statement on Tuesday, Brig Richard Karemire, the army spokesperson, said the army regretted the brutality.

He said the CDF Gen David Muhoozi had ordered such soldiers arrested and punished.
