Barbie Kyagulanyi, the wife to Kyaddondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, is demanding answers from government as to why he is being held in a military barracks.
Addressing press on Wednesday, Barbie said she had read in the papers that her man is being held by Special Forces Command [SFC] soldiers in a Gulu army barracks.
An unconfirmed report had said Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence [CMI] operatives broke into Bobi Wine’s vehicles at Pacific Hotel in Arua town.
Even his driver Yasin Kawuma was shot dead while inside a car near Pacific Hotel, almost a kilometre away from the Avenue-Ediofe Road junction where Opposition supporters encountered the presidential convoy.
“The latest we have as his family is that he [Bobi Wine] is held in a military prison,” Barbie told press.
She went on: “My husband has never been in the military and doesn’t even know how to use a gun. I wonder why he is being held in a military barracks. What has he done to deserve that?”
Steven Ssentamu, a brother to Bobi, demanded that he be released within 48 hours.
Bobi was arrested on Monday night from Arua following the shooting which claimed the life of his driver Kawuma.
Nyanzi calls Museveni and Kayima liars
President Museveni issued a statement saying Kassiano Wadri and Bobi Wine led their rowdy supporters in stoning his motorcade.
But Bobi Wine’s brother, Fred Nyanzi aka Chairman Nyanzi who was in Arua, said Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima and the President all told lies.
Nyanzi was travelling in the Tundra where Kawuma was killed. On Monday, he decided to use another vehicle a Toyota Land Cruiser which also belongs to his brother.
He says Kawuma was shot in the parked Tundra at a hotel, away from the scene of the chaos.
Kassiano, journalists and MPs were also arrested at the same hotel.
“I was chatting with Wadri when we heard gun shots. The entire hotel was in a mess. That is when we learnt of Kawuma’s shooting.”
