Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area have arrested 123 suspects during overnight operations targeting crime hotspots and individuals suspected of involvement in criminal activities.
The operations were conducted between 10pm on September 16 and 5am on September 17, 2026, in several areas of Kampala and Wakiso District, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Kawala Racheal.
Police in Katwe conducted operations in Lusaka, Nkere and Nabisalu zones in Makindye Division, Kampala District, arresting 70 suspects.
The operation targeted identified crime hotspots and areas where police intelligence indicated suspected criminals were residing.
Police said they also recovered several exhibits, including suspected narcotic drugs and Shisha pots.
In a separate operation, police at Kabalagala carried out raids in Kibuli, Bunga, Muyenga and Nsambya parishes in Makindye Division.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 33 suspects.
Police in Nansana, Wakiso District, also conducted an operation in Gganda and Nsumbi targeting suspected hardcore criminals and people allegedly involved in the promotion and use of opium.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 20 male suspects.
Police said some of those arrested in Nansana were found in possession of opium and have been charged with possession of narcotic drugs, to wit opium.
All the suspects remain in police custody pending court proceedings.
SP Kawala said intelligence gathering and monitoring operations would continue as police work to disrupt criminal activities across the metropolitan area.
“We remain committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all members of the public. Intelligence gathering and monitoring operations remain ongoing,” Kawala said.
