“We should not have a country of rioters it is up to everybody to keep peace.”
“So those who rush to condemn the Police and Army. Yes, they do mistakes and if they make mistakes I will be the first to condemn them “but what I find disgusting is the dishonesty, especially those who misdirect the young people. “
Museveni said the attack on people wearing NRM yellow shirts; the attack on officers in uniform should never happen again.
“Whoever has ears should listen. You are not doing anyone a favor to keep the law.”
The president sent condolences to Ugandans that lost their relatives in these senseless riots.
The government will compensate those who lost their lives and properties, “but we shall not compensate those who died and were rioters”.
Museveni said unfortunately, 54 people died; 32 of the dead were rioters, according to the report he got from Grace Akullo, CID boss.
Some were hit by stray bullets and two victims were knocked by a vehicle that lost control after the driver was hit by stones.
