Ethiopia army captures Tigray capital Mekelle

After hours of heavy artillery shelling, the Ethiopian army has captured Tigray regional capital Mekelle city.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali says the national army will now arrest Tigray criminals and bring them to book.

In a statement issued Saturday evening, Abiy said the Federal government is now in full control of the city, which marks the completion of ENDF’s last phase.

The army has secured release of Northern Command soldiers held hostage, taken control of the camp and airports as well as other government installations.

He appreciated the people of Tigray region for providing support to Ethiopia National Defence Forces.
