Police Tuesday foiled a planned move by NRM Electoral Commission chairperson, Dr Tanga Odoi, to ruin Bobi Wine’s rally in Tororo town.
Tanga had mobilised some party supporters to block the National Unity Platform presidential candidate’s planned illegal rallies and processions in Tororo town.
“We want to make sure he doesn’t address any rally in Tororo,” Tanga said.
He says Bobi Wine and Patrick Amuriat have decided to go against the law.
Police, however, blocked his procession of over 200 boda boda riders carrying President Museveni’s campaign posters.
It was intercepted by police along Tororo-Nagongera road which is about three kilometers away from town.
Upon being blocked, Tanga claimed that he was not attempting to block Robert Kyagulanyi’s campaign rally but rather trying remind the police to play their cardinal role of enforcing Covid-19 guidelines.
“We are not blocking any one from holding a campaign rally but trying to remind the police to enforce the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) put in place by the Ministry of Health to guard against Coronavirus as our NRM party president has done,” he told Daily Monitor.
He said as an enlightened person, he cannot just sit and watch his people being put at the risk contracting the deadly disease.
