FDC INTERNAL DEMOCRACY AND CAMPAIGNS
This being my first media briefing since I was elected FDC Presidential candidate, I want to begin by thanking the FDC leaders and supporters for entrusting me with the responsibility to lead them in the 2021 General Elections. I graciously accept this responsibility.
I will use my 26 years public service experience to execute this calling. The country is aware that I have been a Member of Parliament for 15 years. And during my tenure in Parliament, I served in many capacities including chairing the powerful Accountability committee on Commissions, Authorities and State enterprises (COSASE). I have worked with and under Dr.Kizza Besigye in many elections pre and post elections civil rights campaigns. The Country is also aware that I am the leader of this great Party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).In Amuriat, you have an experienced person to lead this campaign. Of course we will do it as a team with guidance from Dr.Kizza Besigye.
This is not my campaign, it is a campaign of the deprived who want to free themselves, and it is a campaign to dislodge a 34 year old dictatorship. It is a campaign we will collectively execute. The FDC is present in every village in Uganda. It is these FDC leaders and supporters that will help me with this campaign
EXECUTION OF THE CAMPAIGNS
My responsibility therefore is to assemble a formidable campaign team and in consultation with the FDC leadership, I have assigned the following;
Owek. Amb. Wasswa Biriggwa- Director General of campaigns.
Hon. Roland Kaginda Mugume- National Field Coordinator
Hon. Albert Okello Oduman- Executive Director- Campaign Bureau.
The above leaders are expected to set up a campaign bureau and campaign structures. The complete campaign team will be unveiled on Monday October 19th 2020 after the necessary approvals. The team will also help set up various fundraising platforms.
Preparation for nominations of our parliamentary candidates is in high gear. The party has made payments of requisite nomination fees to all eligible candidates who have expressed interest to contest. All our candidates are instructed to present themselves for nominations on the first day of the exercise (October 15th)
Signatures to support the nominations of the FDC Presidential candidate are being collected in all districts of the country. This is to instruct all field officers to return signed nomination forms not later than end of this week.
I will commence a country wide mobilization campaign on Saturday October 17th. During this exercise I will interact with FDC leaders, supporters and nominated candidates. This exercise will be concluded with a grand homecoming in Soroti .The detailed program will be issued in due course. We also intend to visit cultural, religious, health and education institutions.
