14 regional hospitals get state-of-the-art labs

The ministry of Health in partnership with Microhaem Scientifics have handed over state-of-the-art laboratory equipment to 14 Regional Referral Hospitals in the country.

Laboratory equipment is critical in ensuring timely diagnosis and treatment.

The handover was presided over by Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwine.

“Our laboratories are one of the best in the region. That is why we are able to pick a number of these epidemics fast,” said Dr Henry Mwebesa on Friday.

“This equipment that we have received today will be placed in the Regional Referral Hospitals to strengthen our diagnosis. “

Atwine said they handed over Haematology Analyzers and startup reagents to 14 Regional Referral Hospitals worth 2.1bn, donated by Microhaem as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility.

This series does blood count for timely diagnosis, and monitoring patients progress on treatment.

This equipment will be very useful for investigations and management of patients of COVID-19, Anaemia (Low blood level) in mothers and children, Sickle cell disease, Leukaemia (cancer of blood), Tuberculosis, HIV and Malaria among other diseases.
