Justice Kwesiga warns CID detectives against forcing confessions

The head of the criminal division of the High Court, Justice Wilson Kwesiga has warned detectives against forcing confessions from suspects.

He urged them to be professional in whatever they do, and not to be compelled to do wrong things.

Justice Kwesiga was speaking during the opening ceremony of a two -week refresher course for detectives on Homicide at CID headquarters in Kibuli.

The judge warned detectives that their main aim should be justice for all parties involved in the case rather than convictions.

The CID director, AIGP Grace Akullo said the two- week refresher course will help homicide investigators develop knowledge and skills to effectively and efficiently manage cases.

Also present was Hon Justice Jane Frances Obodo, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Representative of the JLOS and other senior police officers from Police Headquarters.

The participants have been drawn from In service Homicide department, the Directorate of Forensics and ODPP Homicide Department.

The course which runs from today 15th September will end on 25th September 2020 is being held under the theme, “Enhancing, Efficiency and Effectiveness in Homicide Investigations”.
