Labour minister Mwesigwa Rukutana declared leading in Rushenyi county NRM flag-bearer race.
He is ahead of Naomi Kabasharira after tallying results from over 12 polling stations.
The NRM electoral commission chairman Dr Tanga Odoi says he will announce final results after two days from now.
Kabasharira had won the election with 40 votes after garnering 24,006 votes against Rukutana’s 23,966 votes.
Rukutana’s team petitioned the NRM EC headquarters with evidence to overturn the results announced in Ntungamo last week.
The Ntungamo district NRM election officer Mirembe Maria declared Kabasharira the winner with a declaration form not signed by Rukutana’s agent who disagreed with the results.
Voting was deferred to Saturday, the same day when chaos broke out in the area resulting into multiple shooting and injuring of Rukutana’s rival’s supporters.
The declaration came on the same day that Rukutana was released from Kitalya prison in Wakiso district.
He was granted Shs4m cash bail by Ntungamo Chief Magistrates Court.
His three sureties have also signed Shs50m non-cash agreement each.
He will return to court on November 3, 2020.
