Viewers on DStv can look forward to bone-crushing action from the National Football League (NFL), as ESPN and ESPN 2 brings live action from the 2020-21 season this coming week, Friday 11 to Thursday 17 September 2020.
DStv is your home of the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network.
The first live Regular Season match available to viewers this week arrives on the morning of Friday 11 September with the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the Houston Texans (02:00 LIVE on ESPN), before Sunday 13 September sees the New England Patriots hosting the Miami Dolphins at the Gillette Stadium (19:00 LIVE on ESPN 2).
Patriots coach Bill Belichick says he is “so proud” of his team for their activism work on the eve of the 2020-21 NFL season.
“I’ll keep the things that happened within the team, private within the team,” the veteran tactician said. “That’s kind of the forum that we had, so I’ll maintain the integrity of that. But I’ve certainly learned a lot, continue to learn a lot.
“We have an incredible group of players. I’m so proud of this team and the players we have on it — the way that they’re involved in each other’s lives as teammates, the way that they raise their families and are involved in the community on a number of different levels.
“We’ve always prided ourselves in doing things right and not only being a good football team, but being a pillar in the community. That continues to be our goal and our expectation, and I’m so proud of what our players do on all those levels.”
Later the same night, the New Orleans Saints welcome the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome (22:25 LIVE on ESPN 2), while the early morning of Monday 14 September sees the Dallas Cowboys visit the Los Angeles Rams (02:20 LIVE on ESPN 2).
New Orleans linebackers coach Michael Hodges has praised the impact veteran Craig Robertson has had on the locker room, heading into the start of the new season.
“I think it’s critical. I don’t have a baseline besides the New Orleans Saints for locker rooms, but I have to believe we have a top three (locker room leadership) in the NFL. With guys like him, guys like Drew (Brees) guys like Cam (Jordan), guys like Demario (Davis), it’s really unbelievable,” said Hodges.
“I was talking to (Michael) Wilhoite the other day and he was looking around as our team was coming up to break after practice, and he’s like, there’s a lot of players on this team that played a lot of football. So we got a lot of experience and a lot of leadership that’s going to really help us as this season goes on.”
The week’s final live NFL matches arrive on Tuesday 15 September, with the New York Giants taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers (01:15 LIVE on ESPN 2) at the MetLife Stadium and the Denver Broncos battling the Tennessee Titans (04:10 LIVE on ESPN 2).
Linebacker Lorenzo Carter has made a big impression in pre-season for the Giants, according to head coach Joe Judge, and is one to watch in their Tuesday morning campaign opener: “Zo has been very particular in training camp, he has made a lot of improvement. He plays with a high motor. He is developing a skill set to really expand on what his game has been in the past. Bret [Bielema] is doing a phenomenal job with him.”
