Hakeem Lukenge Monday evening agreed to withdraw his candidature for the NRM 1st National Vice Chairperson.
This was after meeting party chairman and President Museveni at State House.
“I commend him for putting the party ahead of personal interests,” Museveni said.
Museveni chaired the vetting meetings by the Central Executive Committee (CEC) to draft a shortlist that will be forwarded to the National Executive Committee for voting.
As he concluded the process, Captain Francis Babu, one of the long-standing cadres and a worthy contender, having expressed interest in the position of 1st Vice Chairperson and being seconded by CEC, pulled out of the race in good faith, for the benefit of the party.
At the moment, Alhajji Moses Kigongo stands unopposed.
