A new wave of locusts invaded Uganda 02 days ago from Kenya, the first Swam landed in Kangole sub county Morilinga village.

This was confirmed Friday by army spokesperson Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso.

UPDF supported by an aircraft from the DLCO sprayed them and they are no more and no cause of alarm.

As desert locusts spread across East Africa, Uganda has deployed its army to battle the all-consuming horde.

The pests are laying countless eggs that are expected to hatch within weeks, raising concerns among farmers that the worst is yet to come.

Locusts last entered Uganda in February this year when two new swarms of locusts entered via Kalak village, Amudat and Kabong while another swarm entered Kitgum.

Government in the same month secured another Shs7bn on top of the Shs15bn released by Finance ministry to tackle the destructive insects.
