The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has noted with concern the increased vandalism and abuse of road signage across the country using electoral campaign material such as posters pinned to road traffic signs, an act that contravenes the Uganda National Roads Authority (General) Regulations 34 (1) and is punishable upon conviction by a fine or imprisonment.
This is therefore to notify all persons involved in this conduct to remove their campaign posters and desist from this illegal act with immediate effect, management said.
After this notice, the Authority will carry out enforcement operations to apprehend all culprits involved in vandalizing and placing posters on road signage.
“We encourage members of the public to report anyone found or caught defacing road signage using electoral campaign posters to the nearest Police Station or to the contacts and social media handles below,” the statement said.
Last week, posters covering road signs were plastered allover upcountry roads.
