Nakalema arrests KCCA director over Ndeeba church demolition


State House Anti-Corruption Unit led by Lt Col Edith Nakalema has arrested the Acting KCCA Director Physical Planning, Mr. Katongole Ivan.

This follows the demolition of St. Peter’s Church-Ndeeba last Saturday.

Katongole was arrested along with three Police Officers; DPC Katwe, OC Station Ndeeba and OC FFU.

Investigations into the matter have commenced, Nakalema said on Monday.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the church was demolished disregarding government directives that stopped all evictions during this COVID19 period.

Police were not informed about the eviction and demolition as the practice is.

Police arrested 11 suspects namely; Kawooya Mohammad, Bbosa Muniru, Kiberu Amza, Mutebi Abbasi, Bulega Ali, Matovu Simon ,Kalika Ali, Mujuzi Andrew, Ssekito Badru, Isirinya John and Maruti Bashir.

They are currently detained at Katwe Police Station to help with investigations.

The suspects are charged with malicious damage to properties.

Police impounded two motor vehicles that was recovered from the scene and these are Reg. No. UAY 796N canta white loaded with metals, UBG 682Q Tractor/ Engineering plant (excavator).

On Nakalema’s orders, police also arrested Police Officers who were supposed to provide security to Church properties but failed to do so.

They are: DPC Katwe SP Epedu David, OC Station Ndeeba Police Station ASP Mugira Yeko Kato and Field Force Unit (FFU) Commander KMP/South Region ASP Isabirye Kaloli.

They are being charged with neglect of duty.
