Museveni accepts ‘wish of Ugandans’ to stay in power

At exactly 11: 40am on Tuesday, the Party EC Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi declared H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as a duly nominated Presidential Candidate for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the forthcoming General Elections.

Nine minutes earlier, Gen. Museveni had also been nominated a candidate for the position of the Party National Chairperson.

“I, Dr. Odoi Tanga on behalf of NRM Electoral Commission do hereby declare that Y.K  Museveni is duly nominated for the position of the Presidential Candidate”, the EC Chairman said.

Mr. Museveni’s name was nominated by Dr. Ruhankana Rugunda who is a Historical Member of the Party and a Prime Minister.

Victoria University

The NRM National Youth Chairperson Hajji Nasur Gadafi and Ms. Hellen Seku a resident of Kireka Ward in Kiira Town Council seconded the nomination.

Museveni and Janet

The President was in company of the First Lady, Maama Janet Museveni.

Dr. Tanga added, “Mr. Museveni has fulfilled all the nomination requirements as laid down by the Central Executive Committee (CEC)”.

He later officially handed over the Candidate to the Secretariat.

Deputy SG, Hon Richard Todwong received the Candidate’s files on behalf of the Secretary General.

Museveni speaks out on his nomination

Speaking after his nomination, H.E President Museveni said he was grateful to the Party leadership and membership for the continued support.

He saluted the CEC members present, the EC officials and the Secretariat staff for their devotion towards the Party operations.

The President reminded Ugandans to observe the SOPs in the continued fight against Covid-19.

He added that despite the closure of the boarders, the airport and the tourism sites, the Uganda Shilling has gained against the dollar.

He also spoke about strengthening of regional integration.

The Deputy SG Hon Richard Todwong thanked the President for accepting the call and the wish of the people to continue leading this country.

Todwong called for respect among different office aspirants across the country.

Also present was the National Treasurer Hon Rose Namayanja Nsereko, her Deputy Hon Jacqueline Kyatuheirwe and Directors Hajat Medina Neham (Finance & Administration), Hon Mathias Kasamba (Mobilisation) and Hon Emmanuel Dombo (Media).

Several historicals attended

Several members of the Historical Forum led by Hajji Edrisa Sseddunga, Dr. Eric Adriko, Olive Zizinga, Col Bosco Omule and NRA Veteran Kigundu Kabandwa among others attended the event.

A number of CEC Members were also in attendance.

These included the 1st National Vice Chairperson Rt. Hon. Moses Kigongo, the 2nd National Vice Chairperson Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Chief Whip Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, Hon. George Mike Mukula (Eastern) and Hon Sam Engola (Northern).

Others were Hon. Gabriel Kato (PWD), Hon. Geoffrey Nyakana (Kampala), Hon Lydia Wanyoto (Women) and Hon Huda Oleru (Special nominee).

Salim Uhuru, the host NRM District Chairperson offered the opening prayer.
